Barony of Cranendonck
In the heart of Cranendonck municipality lies the Cranendonck Forest surrounded by a special cultural landscape, the Baronie van Cranendonck. Villa Cranendonck, the little white castle, was built in the early 20th century. It was privately owned for quite some time until the municipality became owner or the Cranendonck estate in 1938. In 1940 the castle was used as city hall. Now it is used mainly as a wedding location.
The area has a fascinating history to delve into. You can see the outline of the former castle, which was also an important location in a genuine witch hunt, where five alleged local practitioners of witchcraft were sentenced to death. A wonderful day out in nature and a trip back in time.
