Bert and Peter Boonen's dairy In Hamont-Achel is housed in an old nunnery where for centuries Franciscan nuns used to live. At this historic site, a hundred red-and-white cows provide the basis for their delicious dairy products: fresh milk. From this milk, the Boonen family crafts hard and soft cheeses, blue- and white-veined cheeses, fresh cheeses and herb cheeses. They have some 140 varieties, which are all sold in the farm store. A worthy mention goes out to their Blauwe Grevenbroecker, once the recipient of an award for “most original cheese”.
